Endangered Species Act Consultation importance and Rule Restoration
Current Obama government has started off a plan according to which wild life experts will have to go for investigations of risks and dangers based upon the implementation of any project.
• Like wildlife didn’t reviewed the plan of increasing logging old grown and matured forest in Oregon before approving it – this plan had the negative impact that approximately 680 Spotted Owl sites may be eliminated as said by American Bird Conservancy. Len Blumin (flicker) admires the Obama administration policies and organization due to implementation of rules that are implemented.
• During the last Government of George W. Bush the plan was rejected in just the eleventh hour of term left as the plan has to be discussed with US Fish and wildlife Service or the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric administration before its implementation which required construction of roads, mines and dams.
• Endangered Species Act is devoting their services of keeping species and habitats secure from threats since decades as said by the Commerce Secretary Gary Locke. According to 1973 law, the ESA is responsible of protecting endangered species from elimination and also to maintain the habitats and ecosystem necessary for their survival.
Decision of restoring Endangered Species Act
Ken Salazar the interior secretary and Gary Locke the commerce secretary announced on April 28, 2009 that they will reverse the regulation of Endangered Species Act imposed in the last months of previous Government. According to this rule now ESA doesn’t require to consult the FWS and NMFS experts whose plans may risk the species. If fact the agencies are now allowed to either consult or not. This act has been really admired by the Vice President for Conservation Advocacy Darin Schroeder.
Consultation process is very important and one of the cornerstones of ESA that ensures the protection of animals, birds and plants. An example of ESA consultation importance is the Western Oregon plan which was approved without the revision even there were lots of risks associated with it. Like habitat protection may get to risk due to decreasing Salmon Stocks and 680 Spotted Owl sites may be eliminated. So this plan must be withdrawn so that proper consultation may take place.
During the 160th anniversary of department of interior, President Obama proposed that the new technology must be implemented at ESA so that to make it stronger and then after the speech he released the memorandum regarding the consultation restoration.
