April 29 doesn’t represent a date that one could usually forget about being on the calendar. This very special year it fall on Wednesday, almost but not quite denoting an end mark to the month. It’s quite obvious that, April 29 would pass by without making much of a buzz around us every other year.
But this year, probably for the very first time, April 29 was embraced with great enthusiasm. This particular year, April 29had its own meaning, for the time being rivaling with more inauspicious and traditional dates like the July 4th or October 31st.Now, the question arises why was the day so special this particular year? And, the reason behind this was that April 29 marked the completion of 100th day of President Barack Obama’s presidency. On the eve of Obama’s completion of hundred days, CNN had telecasted hours of special long duration coverages focusing solely on Obama Administration’s first hundred day activities. Without a doubt, almost every columnist working at almost every newspaper in the nation used the occasion to put their thoughts on the true meaning of it all. On 29th April,2009 like the school going kids Obama’s report card was issued; Obama’s administrations overall performance was scrutinized and weighed against the expectations that we had of him in pre- election stage.
So what makes us put so much of significance to the completion of president Obama’s First Hundred Days? To be honest it’s pre dominantly Franklin Roosevelt’s fault. He being one of the most strong and independent presidents in the US history, Roosevelt utilized the first hundred days of his presidency to put forward a mammoth package of legislation via Congress – fifteen individual bills that combinedly established the basis of the New Deal, created revolutionary changes in to the modern American society. On passing these fifteen bills, Congress was adjourned dated June 16, 1933 – exactly hundred days after it commenced. Right from that point of time, the starting of every new president’s term has been adjudged against the FDR’s standard. And just about almost every president has failed to put up a great show.
President Barack Obama’s very first hundred days was lead by changes in almost every sphere of life of the Americans. Majority of the changes were reversals of Obama’s self campaign stands. It was also filled with reversals of a huge number of policies adopted by the Bush Administration .The first hundred day analysis makes it crystal clear that For the better or for the worse; the federal government led by President Barack Hussein Obama will certainly be different from that of George W. Bush.
